Common Questions and Fixes
Setting up a new ElvUI profile can make your World of Warcraft UI much cleaner, but it can also bring up a few questions. Maybe the installer was closed too early, your buff trackers are not showing correctly, or WindTools is giving a LUA error.
This xScarlifeUI ElvUI profile FAQ answers the most common questions players ask when installing or using xScarlifeUI in WoW Retail.
The goal is to help you solve common setup issues without instantly deleting folders, resetting your full UI, or reinstalling everything from scratch.
What Is xScarlifeUI?
xScarlifeUI is an ElvUI-based World of Warcraft UI setup created by xScarlife. It is designed as a clean, practical, and ready-to-use profile for players who want a better WoW UI without building everything manually.
The profile is meant to be used through the installer as a plug-and-play setup. It includes profile settings and layouts for supported addons, but every WoW installation can still behave slightly differently depending on resolution, UI scale, addon versions, and Blizzard settings.
Important Note About LUA Errors and Addon Support
xScarlifeUI is a collection of addon profiles created by xScarlife and shared with the World of Warcraft community.
However, xScarlife is not responsible for LUA errors caused by ElvUI, WindTools, Details!, BigWigs, Blizzard UI changes, or any other addon used together with the profile.
The profile only changes addon settings, layouts, and configuration. It does not control the addon code itself.
If you receive LUA errors from a specific addon, please report them through the official Discord, GitHub, CurseForge page, or support channel of that addon’s developer. They are the ones who can investigate addon bugs, patch issues, compatibility problems, and error logs.
General xScarlifeUI setup questions are welcome, but addon-specific LUA errors should be reported to the addon developers.
Important Note About Profile Sharing and Custom Changes
xScarlifeUI is provided as a ready-to-use ElvUI profile through an installer. The purpose of the profile is to make the UI plug-and-play, so players can install it and use it as intended.
Please do not redistribute, reupload, or share modified versions of xScarlifeUI as your own. The official version should always be downloaded from the xScarlife Gaming website, CurseForge or Wago AddOns.
Custom changes are also not supported. If you move frames, change filters, adjust layouts, remove parts of the setup, or heavily modify the profile, you are no longer using xScarlifeUI as it was designed.
In that case, I cannot provide personal support for those custom changes. Once the profile has been changed, it becomes very difficult to know what caused the issue or whether the problem is still related to the original setup.
If you want full control over every detail of your UI, it is better to create your own ElvUI profile from scratch.
Where Can I Download xScarlifeUI?
You can download the xScarlifeUI ElvUI profile from the official page: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/elvui-xscarlifeui
Always use the official xScarlife Gaming page so you are working with the correct version, setup instructions, and required addon information.
Can I Open the xScarlifeUI Installer Again?
Yes. You can reopen the installer whenever you need it.
To open the xScarlifeUI installer again:
- Type
/ecin chat. - Look at the left side of the ElvUI options window.
- Select xScarlifeUI.
- Run the installer again if needed.
This is useful if you closed the installer too early or want to reinstall the profile.
I Receive Objective Progress LUA Errors from WindTools
If you receive Objective Progress LUA errors from WindTools, reset the Objective Progress module.
Go to:
WindTools Options → Advanced → Reset → Objective Progress → Reload UI
After the reload, check if the error is gone.
If the LUA error keeps returning, make sure WindTools is updated. If it still happens on the latest version, report the error to the WindTools developer support channel.
I See Blizzard Skins Active or Missing in ElvUI
xScarlifeUI comes with ElvUI Blizzard skins disabled by default.
This is normal.
If you want to enable them:
- Type
/ec. - Go to Skins.
- Enable Blizzard Skins.
- Reload your UI.
This is personal preference. Some players prefer the default Blizzard windows, while others like the fully skinned ElvUI look.
My Buff Trackers Are Not Showing Correctly
If your buff trackers are not appearing in the correct location, check Blizzard Edit Mode.
Open Blizzard Edit Mode and make sure Cooldown Manager is enabled.
If Cooldown Manager is disabled, your buff tracker elements may not appear where expected, even if the xScarlifeUI profile imported correctly.
What Resolution Is xScarlifeUI Made For?
xScarlifeUI is used on a 1440p monitor with a 2560×1440 screen resolution.
If you play on another resolution, use the in-game Auto Scale option. You may still need to adjust a few elements manually depending on your screen size and UI scale.
This does not mean the profile is broken. ElvUI profiles often need small adjustments when used on a different resolution.
What Console Commands Do You Use?
These are the console commands used with the setup:
/console RAIDWaterDetail 0
/console RAIDweatherDensity 0
/console scriptProfile 0
/console worldPreloadNonCritical 0 You can enter them one by one in the chat window.
What Should I Do Before a New WoW Patch?
Before logging in after a new World of Warcraft patch, go to your Retail folder and delete the Cache folder.
The folder path is usually:
World of Warcraft\_retail_\Cache The game will automatically create a new Cache folder the next time you launch WoW.
Do not confuse the Cache folder with the WTF folder. The Cache folder stores temporary game data. The WTF folder stores your addon settings, profiles, and UI configuration.
Only delete the WTF folder if you want to reset your addon settings.
How Do I Update ElvUI Manually?
Updating ElvUI should not remove your settings, because addon settings are stored in the WTF folder.
When updating manually, delete the old addon folders first. Do not overwrite them.
Recommended steps:
- Close World of Warcraft.
- Go to your AddOns folder.
- Delete the old ElvUI addon folders.
- Download the updated addon.
- Extract the downloaded file.
- Move the extracted folder or folders into your AddOns directory.
Retail:
World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\AddOns Classic Era:
World of Warcraft\_classic_era_\Interface\AddOns Cataclysm Classic:
World of Warcraft\_classic_\Interface\AddOns The most important rule is simple: delete the old addon folders first, never override them.
What Should I Do If I Have Lag or Stuttering?
Lag and stuttering are not always caused by ElvUI or xScarlifeUI. They can also come from drivers, Windows issues, broken addon updates, another addon, or in-game settings.
Try these steps first:
- Install the latest graphics driver.
- Install the latest Windows updates.
- Clear your Windows Temp folder.
- Restart your PC.
- Disable all addons and enable them one by one.
- Perform a full WoW reset only if nothing else works.
Your Windows Temp folder is usually located here:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp Replace Username with your own Windows username.

For a full WoW reset, use this video:
Before doing a full reset, make a backup of your WTF folder.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Avoid these common setup mistakes:
- Do not overwrite old addon folders when updating manually.
- Do not delete your WTF folder unless you want to reset addon settings.
- Do not delete your Interface folder unless you understand what will be removed.
- Do not assume every LUA error is caused by xScarlifeUI.
- Do not report addon-specific LUA errors as profile issues.
- Do not redistribute, reupload, or share modified versions of xScarlifeUI.
- Do not expect support after heavily modifying the profile.
- Do not forget to reload your UI after changing ElvUI, WindTools, or Blizzard UI settings.
